A year ago this week, we were working on our first proposal for the exciting program we are launching today. The Free Mobile Farmers Market is a traveling farm stand that will provide no cost fresh fruits and vegetables to low-income neighborhoods and food deserts in the Greater Modesto Area and Stanislaus county. Food deserts are urban neighborhoods and rural areas without ready access to fresh, healthy and affordable food. Everyone deserves access to fresh produce, and now we’re helping to make that a reality.
Even having just launched this week, the Free Mobile Farmers Market is a big success, helping to feed hundreds in needy areas. We’ve even received some press in the Modesto Bee.
We thank the Teichert Foundation and Doctors Medical Center for helping to fund the start-up costs of this project and Mark Buckley Farmer’s Agent and Alfred Matthews Chevrolet Buick GMC for the gorgeous Chevy Avalanche that was donated especially to help us bring this program to the community. You can help us feed Modesto by letting us glean your farm or garden, donating fresh fruits and vegetables, or making a donation by clicking the donate button at the top of this page. Your support will help us provide a variety of fruits and vegetables year round, regardless of season.
