Modesto Gospel Mission and The Food Initiative of Greater Stanislaus Collaborate to Strengthen Their Impact on the Community

[Modesto, CA] – The Food Initiative of Greater Stanislaus and Modesto Gospel Mission are pleased to announce an exciting collaboration that marks a new chapter in their missions to address poverty, food insecurity, and homelessness in the community.

In a strategic move that aligns with their respective organizational goals, The Food Initiative has sold its building to Modesto Gospel Mission. This decision comes after careful consideration and with a shared commitment to enhancing services for those in need. The Food Initiative’s mission focuses on addressing poverty, food access and security, and providing for other humanitarian needs in Stanislaus County through the Healthy Food Pantry, Free Mobile Market, Food Coalition, Homebound Delivery for seniors and disabled individuals, the Interfaith Clothes Closet, and other programs. The Modesto Gospel Mission provides vital services to men, women and kids, which includes emergency shelter, a day program, food and clothing, after school youth program, and a 12-month residential New Life Program, all of which support the most vulnerable members of our community.

With a long history of collaboration rooted in mutual support, the organizations are poised to create an even more significant impact on the lives of those they serve. The decision to sell the building stems from The Food Initiative’s recognition that their current location no longer aligns with their evolving needs. Meanwhile, Modesto Gospel Mission, located across the street, required additional space to expand its services.

“We are thrilled that we found this solution with the Modesto Gospel Mission,” said Elizabeth Wight, CEO of The Food Initiative. “Our long-standing partnership has laid the foundation for this transition. By selling our building, we are taking a strategic step forward to support both organizations’ missions more effectively, allowing us each to do the most good.”

“The Modesto Gospel Mission is excited about the opportunity to expand our scope of services in acquiring The Food Initiative of Greater Stanislaus property,” shared Jason Conway, CEO of the Modesto Gospel Mission. “We look forward to sharing more on how this space will be utilized to meet one of the most pressing needs in this community in the upcoming months. We also have been blessed with being neighbors with Interfaith and now The Food Initiative of Greater Stanislaus for over 25 years. We are excited as they launch into this next chapter of their strategic plan, and we look forward to serving our community alongside the Food Initiative for many years to come!”

The partnership between The Food Initiative of Greater Stanislaus and Modesto Gospel Mission exemplifies the power of nonprofit organizations working together to address pressing social challenges. As both organizations look ahead to a future of shared impact, they invite the community to join them in supporting their missions.

The Food Initiative will be moving to a mobile-first format based out of our new location at 650 Janopaul in Modesto. This relocation offers an opportunity for The Food Initiative to broaden its impact by expanding mobile services, ensuring that those in need receive the support they require. There will be minimal disruption to services during the transition, and up-to-date information will be available at www.foodinitiative.org and across FIGS social media.
